Maintaining Healthy Skin During Season Changes

Maintaining Healthy Skin During Season Changes

Maintaining Healthy Skin During Season Changes

Do you notice that your skin tends to dry out and crack during the cold winter months? Is it impossible for you to maintain a fresh appearance during the summer season because of the excess oil on your skin?

If the answer is yes to either of these questions, you aren’t alone. Numerous people struggle to maintain healthy skin as the seasons change. However, when you put together a skin routine together specific for each season, there is a better possibility that you won’t suffer from the negative impact of harsh temperatures or other factors.

Here is an overview of what you should plan for each season:

Summer

Although it’s fun to enjoy the bright sun during the summer months, you should always keep sunscreen on hand. Summer is the prime time to experience sunburn, which is painful and can have an immediate effect on your skin.

However, prolonged exposure to the sun without proper protection can also lead to other serious conditions such as skin cancer, so invest in a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

Fall

As soon as you feel the coolness of fall set in, it’s important that you begin to focus on finding the best type of moisturizer for your skin type. If you’ve been using moisturizer throughout the spring or the summer, you may want to consider using more during the fall or changing it to something that can give your skin a better level of hydration.

Winter

The winter season can wreak havoc on your skin. The frigid air instantly pulls the natural moisture out of your skin which is why you should consider throwing a small bottle of lotion in your purse, so you have it on hand all of the time.

Also, don’t forget about your lips. Investing in a quality lip balm can go a long way in helping you to avoid cracked lips which could become painful if left untreated.

Spring

Spring comes with a season of relief for those who hate the cooler fall and winter months. You will need to give your skin a period of transition as it adjusts from dry to warmer temperatures.

Although it’s always important to keep your skin hydrated, you may want to pull back on using moisturizers or serums until the season adjusts out of consistently chilly days. Similar to summer, make sure to have a bottle of sunscreen nearby as the sun starts to shine through the gray clouds of the outgoing winter season.
